Attorney Derek Snelling

Derek received his B.A. degree in Economics from the University of Oregon in 1992 and his J.D. from the University of Oregon in 1995, with certificates of completion in Environmental and Natural Resource Law, and Ocean and Coastal Law. Twice the OSAA State Champion in the pole vault event, Derek was also twice named to the Pac-10 All-Academic Team while competing for the University of Oregon in Men’s Track. While at the School of Law, Derek was also picked to join the editorial staff and managing board of the Journal of Environmental Law and Litigation.

Prior to joining Shlesinger & deVilleneuve Attorneys, P.C., Derek served as a U.S. Peace Corps Volunteer from 1995 through 1997 in the Solomon Islands and as the Brightwood Law Fellow for the U.S. office of the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (E-LAW) from 1998-2000.

Derek is a member of the Oregon State Bar, Alaska Bar Association, Oregon Trial Lawyers Association and Lane County Bar Association. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Oregon. Derek’s practice areas include Personal Injury Law, Environmental Law, and Civil Litigation.

Derek has served as an appointed member of the Council on Court Procedures from 2016-2020. The Council on Court Procedures is the Oregon Public Body most directly involved in creating, reviewing, and amending the Oregon Rules of Civil Procedure that govern procedure and practice in all Oregon circuit courts (except for the small claims departments). Derek has also spent time volunteering as a judge and panelist in various moot court competitions, and for ten years volunteering with Kidsports as a youth soccer coach.

While not at work, Mr. Snelling enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife and two daughters. His hobbies include trail running, fly fishing, tennis, surfing, and skiing.
