Defective & Dangerous Products in Portland
Each year, Black Friday is the peak sales day for retailers across the Country. And, economists use this day as a thermometer for how healthy our economy is – proving our society is highly driven by consumerism. In fact, the most recent data for one of the most popular online retailers, reported that on Black Friday they sold more than 300 items … per second! While this day is the biggest shopping day of the year, the truth is we buy ‘stuff’ everyday all year round. We make these purchases with the expectation that the items are buying are safe for us to use and have been made with integrity.
Unfortunately, that is not always the case and you or someone that you care about could sustain an injury. This is when you immediately call our office for Product Liability Law support.
All product manufacturers are required, by law, to perform rigorous testing on their products to ensure that they have been assembled properly and are safe to use.
Additionally, they are required to include clear and accurate instructions for how the products should be used. But, sometimes in business a manufacturer places their profit margin above the safety and well-being of their customers and, they refuse to meet their safety obligations. The result is you or someone you love is injured by a product … or worse.
Product liability cases will usually fall into one of these categories:
- Items that are outright defective. Manufacturers do have quality assurance systems in place but, if they are not as diligent as they should be, an item can come off the line that has been poorly manufactured and will cause injury
- Items that are poorly designed. When you hear of company recalls – this is usually the cause. Something in the design of the product itself is not safe and all units of the item are prone to cause injury.
- Items that do not include clear safety instructions. When an item does not include clear safety instructions or warnings – an injury can occur when the items is used in a way that it may not have been intended. However, it is the burden of the manufacturer to inform their customers about how the items should and should not be used.
