even if they are not friends or family.\u00a0 That is what we mean when <strong>we promise a free consultation<\/strong>.\u00a0 We will review your case with you, answer all of your questions and help you make good decisions about your personal injury claim.\u00a0 Sometimes it is clear that the injured party will need an attorney to help them with their case.\u00a0 Other times, they just need answers and guidance.\u00a0 Either way, <strong><span style=\"color: #339966;\">our objective is to make sure you are fairly compensated and are not taken advantage of by the insurance company.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Along those lines, I wanted to share with you some general principles that apply to most personal injury claims.\u00a0 The following are some universal rules answering the question &#8211;\u00a0&#8220;What should I make sure to do before I settle my case?&#8221;:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>1.<\/strong>\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Med<\/strong><strong>ical Bills<\/strong><\/span><strong>:\u00a0 <\/strong>\u00a0Once you settle your personal injury case with the other side your case will be closed.\u00a0 Regardless of what you might think or believe or what\u00a0the other side\u00a0might have \u00a0&#8220;implied&#8221;,\u00a0once your case is settled<strong> you will\u00a0<span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">NOT<\/span>\u00a0receive any additional funds<\/strong> for past or future medical bills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">Therefore, it is critical that your settlement covers <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>all<\/strong><\/span> of your past, present and future medical bills.\u00a0 This also includes any liens by your car insurance (PIP), health insurance, Medicare, or any other entity that paid any medical bills related to your car accident or personal injury claim.\u00a0 It is an unwelcomed surprise (to\u00a0put it mildly)\u00a0to discover that you owe your health insurance thousands of dollars after you have already settled your case!<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>2.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Income\/Wage Loss:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 If you lost any wages or income due to an accident related disability, you must recover it at the same time you settle your claim.\u00a0 This is especially important if the accident rendered you permanently disabled and will cause you to incur future wage or income loss.\u00a0 As I indicated above, once you settle your claim<strong> it is forever closed<\/strong>.\u00a0 You will not be able to ask the insurance company for more compensation three years down the road because you still cannot return to work.\u00a0 This issue must be reviewed with your medical provider and included in your personal injury settlement consideration.\u00a0 It is your responsibility to contemplate your future loss and bring it up before settlement.\u00a0 The insurance company will <strong>NOT <\/strong>remind you of that.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><strong>3.\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Read &amp; Understand The Release Agreement:<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0 Once you reach an agreement with the insurance company to settle your car accident or personal injury claim they will send you a <em><strong>release<\/strong><\/em> agreement form\u00a0to sign.\u00a0 Sometimes the release agreement will be sent with your settlement check, other times they will send the release agreement first and the settlement check only after they receive the signed release back from you.\u00a0 The release agreement represents and formalizes the terms of the settlement.\u00a0 Make sure you review the agreement <strong>before<\/strong> you sign it and return it to the insurance company.\u00a0 If any<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\">of the terms of the agreement do not accurately represent your understanding of the settlement <span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>STOP.\u00a0 <\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Contact the insurance adjuster and request that corrections be made to the release agreement.\u00a0 <strong>If you are unsure, contact an attorney<\/strong>.\u00a0 Most personal injury\u00a0attorneys will be happy to explain the terms of the\u00a0settlement agreement to you;
