\n1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Watch out for pedestrians.\u00a0Just as if you were in a vehicle, pedestrians have the right of way.\u00a0Stop for people who walk!
\n2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0It is your job to ride with the flow of traffic and obey all street signs and lights just as the cars should.\u00a0Consider a bicycle the same as a motorcycle when it comes to traffic laws.\u00a0They aren’t any different for you than anyone else driving a vehicle.
\n3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Use your hand signals every time.\u00a0Hand signs can save your life!\u00a0Always signal to let people know what you are doing (unless it is impossible or not safe for you to use your hand to signal).
\n4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Use lights on your bike.\u00a0A white light on the front with a red light\/reflector on the back is required for riding after dark.\u00a0This is the minimum you should do to be safe.
\n5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If you like to listen to music while you ride, never cover both ears.\u00a0This can distract you from hearing what is happening around you.
\n6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Even if you have the right of way, assume that cars don’t see you until you know that they do by visual confirmation.
\n7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Wear a helmet.\u00a0It is the law if you are under 16!
\n8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Let pedestrians know when you pass them.\u00a0They must hear your warning.
\n9.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0If you are in the riding in the city, it isn’t legal for you to ride on the sidewalks!
