2026 Scholastic Scholarships

Shlesinger & deVilleneuve Attorneys, a plaintiff-side injury law firm, encourages Oregon High School Seniors to apply to win one of two annual scholarships.

The S&D High School Senior $1,500 Scholarships will be awarded to two (2) Oregon High School Seniors currently accepted to enroll in, or planning to attend, a college, university, trade school, or vocational school in 2026 following graduation.

* The $1,500 scholarship will be payable to the winner’s school of attendance.

** Employees of Shlesinger & deVilleneuve or their immediate families are not eligible to participate.

Important Dates for 2026

  • March 26, 2026 – Scholarship Opens
  • May 14, 2026 – Scholarship Closes at 11:59pm
  • June 15, 2026 – Recipients will be notified
  • June 22, 2026 – Recipients announced on the Shlesinger & deVilleneuve website, Facebook, and Instagram

HOW TO APPLY

In order to be considered, you must submit a 400-500 word essay in response to one (1) of the following prompts:

Prompt #1: Personal injury law aims to help individuals who have been harmed due to someone else’s negligence.
In your opinion, how could the legal system better serve or protect injury victims?

OR

Prompt #2: What is one aspect of the United States judicial system that you believe could be improved?
Please explain why this change is necessary, and how it could positively impact individuals or society as a whole.

Along with your essay, you must submit your name, mailing address, email address, phone number, proof of enrollment, unofficial transcripts, and either a professional or a high-quality photograph of yourself (image must be .png or .jpg format).

* Optional: Please also submit your social media handles if you want to be tagged in our posts should you be selected as the scholarship recipient.

The deadline for applying is Thursday, May 14, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

Only one submission per applicant is allowed.

*Please submit all materials together. Submitting materials separately will disqualify you.

Your safety and privacy are of utmost importance to us. We will not disclose or share your personal identifying information with anyone outside of Shlesinger & deVilleneuve. To include: your last name, contact information, transcripts, and name of attending school or institution.

QUALIFICATIONS AND TERMS:

  • Must be a US citizen, legal resident, or DACA recipient.
  • Current Oregon High School Senior with a Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
  • Currently accepted to enroll in, or planning to attend, a college, university, trade school, or vocational school in the Unites States following your 2026 graduation. 
  • Complete the application and essay; and upload your transcript showing your cumulative GPA, and/or College or vocational school acceptance or enrollment letter, no later than May 14, 2026.
  • Be selected by the Shlesinger & deVilleneuve Scholarship Committee. The Committee will decide by June 15, 2026, and notify those selected. Scholarship funds will be distributed by check payable to the College or Vocational school.
  • By submitting materials in competition for the scholarship/s, the winner/s agree to have their name (first name and last initial only), their Oregon county of residence, the title of their winning essay, and their picture displayed by Shlesinger & deVilleneuve on their website and social media accounts in recognition of their award.
DISCLAIMER: We mail the check directly from our office to the winner’s financial aid office. Once we have mailed the check, it is the school’s responsibility to distribute the check to the student’s account. For late checks, contact the university as they are likely delaying the process.

EVALUATION CRITERIA:

Each applicant will be evaluated, and winners will be chosen based on the following:

  1. Eligibility – The applicant meets all qualifications and has agreed to the scholarship terms.
  2. Quality of Communication – The essay is well-organized, clearly written, and professionally presented with proper grammar and structure.
  3. Originality & Critical Thinking – The applicant presents unique perspectives, demonstrates thoughtful analysis, and offers well-formed opinions.
  4. Clarity of Argument – The response includes a logical assessment, real-world examples (if applicable), and strong reasoning for the applicant’s position.
  5. Relevance – The essay effectively expresses why the chosen topic matters and how it connects to broader societal or legal issues.
The work you submit must be your own and not generated by AI or written by another person. All submitted work will be screened for AI/Chat GPT written essays. In the event that an essay is determined to have been written by AI, that applicant will be disqualified and their application deleted.
